The Male Ice Horo Dance of Epiphany in Kalofer and the throwing of the cross is a ritual, a candidate for UNESCO, which is held every year on January 6 – Jordan’s Day (Epiphany). It is believed that all who enter the Tundzha River for the ice dance will be healthy all year round, and those who catch the cross will bring good luck and health to the whole house. There is no competition in Kalofer and the cross is always given to the youngest participant in the dance.
At the Epiphany, we will take you to Kalofer to enjoy the unique ritual together and to experience the excitement of throwing the cross. Later we will walk around Kalofer, we will visit the Museum of Hristo Botev, and in one of the local taverns, we will try Kalofer brandy, wine, and meat appetizers.
